KOMPISHÄNG Brings Permanency to Rented Spaces and College Dorms

One of the most important aspects of the collection is that, once added to an apartment or dorm room, none of it feels temporary. Despite being foldable, rollable, and easy to move, each piece of furniture is also beautiful and high-quality—something you’d want to keep around long-term.

A difficult part of dorm life or renting is making a space feel like yours while knowing your changes can’t be permanent. The KOMPISHÄNG collection is designed to be renter-friendly without looking like it. You’d never guess the entire collection is made to be easily moved without a car.

“Even if you move often, you don’t want your home to feel temporary. We saw how carefully people chose the things they carried with them from place to place, and that insight shaped the collection. We wanted the collection to be portable but still have a permanent look; people should feel settled and considered,” said Dora Ding, Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden, in a press release.

Another big part of the collection was incorporating spaces for hooks and wall hangings across several KOMPISHÄNG pieces, making it easier to display photographs, artwork, and personal items without damaging walls.

Items like IKEA’s door hanger feature tons of extra hooks for bags, hats, coats, and scarves. The collection’s foldable mirror has a frame with grooves for holding your favorite photos. Plus, every item from KOMPISHÄNG that can be hung up features handy door straps or closet rod hooks, so you won’t ever need to touch a hammer or nail to hang them.

KOMPISHÄNG Stools

A stool is a flexible piece of furniture that’s perfect for renters—whether you need a compact seat for your desk or dining chairs that are easy to move, stools will fit any angle and seating configuration. The elegant, green-topped KOMPISHÄNG stools are hiding another secret, though.

When you’re not sitting on them, they can slide together like puzzle pieces in several ways. Stack the interlocking legs of the stools on top of each other to create a beautiful shelf with lots of extra storage space; when it’s time to move them out of your place, simply slide the stools over each other into a single compact set that’s easy to carry.

KOMPISHÄNG Plant Pot

As part of the design process, the KOMPISHÄNG team made home visits to see what needs their pieces could fill. During one such visit, they ran into a green thumb with a big issue: she wasn’t sure how to safely transport her precious houseplants to her new home. Thus, the KOMPISHÄNG plant pot was born.

At first glance, it looks like a regular canvas plant pot. But not only do the handles on the side make it easy to carry from place to place—a hidden cover is built into the inside of the plant pot. Roll it out, and it will protect your plant’s leaves while you move.
