The Coverstone Outdoor Round Dining Chair Set Cover is a sturdy option that does an excellent job of protecting outdoor furniture. Our tester has it on their outdoor dining set, which is on the uncovered portion of their deck, for six months.

The cover fits snugly and is easy to stretch over a table and chairs. It includes clips that fit over the table or chair legs and auto-locking drawcords to tighten the cover around the bottom. There are also four buckle straps along the interior for added security during extreme weather conditions.

Our tester hasn’t had any issues with the cover loosening or coming off. The cover protects their outdoor furniture during rain and high winds. Water beads up and rolls off the surface effectively, while the sturdy reinforced handles make adjusting and removing the cover simple. 

While on the pricier end compared to other outdoor furniture covers, it is effective and built to last. However, the light color of the fabric shows dirt and staining from both moisture and pollen. There were several black patches on the exterior of the cover by the end of the initial testing period.

But thankfully, this is just cosmetic; there’s no mold or mildew, and the cover hasn’t shrunk or pulled after use.

At times the wish it was a bit more oversized, but the snug fit helps ensure they never find moisture on the furniture underneath. The Rimwig Outdoor Sofa Cover is the perfect furniture cover for homeowners on a budget or who want something that’s easy to use and store. Our tester has used it on an outdoor couch all summer in an area with heavy rain, only removing it when they want to sit for an extended period.

Not only does this product provide excellent water resistance, but it also protects furniture from strong wind gusts. The cover has kept our tester’s outdoor furniture safe from the elements through 10 rain- and windstorms, and extreme heat in which temperatures reached 95°F.

Water doesn’t leak through at all, although it does pool on top of the cover. The cover did a great job of protecting furniture from debris that fell from an overhanging tree above the patio. It’s easy to take on and off, and fits our tester’s furniture perfectly with a little room to spare in every direction.

Adjustable side straps on the sides can be tightened, and hook-and-loop leg fasteners help provide a secure fit and prevent the cover from moving around or becoming loose. However, these fasteners feel cheaply made, so we’re wary of how they’ll hold up over time.

Throughout the testing period, the cover didn’t show any signs of fading, bleaching, UV damage, shrinkage, mold, or mildew. However, it doesn’t protect from pests—when our tester keeps the cover on for extended periods of a full week or two, they find bugs and spiderwebs in the cushions.

It also includes well-made structured air vents on two sides, which prevents the cover from blowing away and keeps furniture dry and in good condition. We’re impressed by the noticeable quality of the cover, even from a distance, given the budget-friendly price.

The fabric feels heavy-duty and holds up well; there was no shrinkage after being outside during the testing period. It fit our tester’s dining set perfectly. We appreciate the plastic clips and elastic draw cords that attach to table legs to keep the cover on even during high winds and severe weather.

There are also straps at each corner to adjust the height of the cover, which tightens and holds the fabric in place. The strong, waterproof fabric prevents water and debris from seeping through to the wood underneath, even with all the trees surrounding the deck. 

Keep in mind, you’ll need to ensure your outdoor dining chairs aren’t significantly taller than your table—our tester has experienced water pooling. You may be able to prevent this by adding a structure underneath the cover on top of the table, such as a plastic storage container.

The Covers & All Custom Cover is an overall great furniture cover that is well worth the price. Our tester uses it on a rattan wicker couch approximately 60 inches wide and 30 inches tall with polyester cushions The material is thick enough to feel durable but flexible enough to be easy to maneuver. 

It’s immediately apparent that the cover is high quality, with strong stitching and anchor clasps. While it took some trial and error to figure out the proper orientation, it’s manageable for one person to put on and remove by themselves. 

The cover protects the couch from pollen, leaves, grass, and landscaping debris. While it hasn’t rained since our tester started using the cover, they poured a full vase of water over the top to simulate rain. Water beaded up and rolled off the cover, keeping the couch dry. 

Our one other complaint is that the cover has a roomier rather than snug fit over our tester’s couch. However, custom sizing is available from Covers & All, so you should be able to tailor the fit pretty closely to your individual item.

What to Know About Outdoor Furniture Covers Before Shopping

When shopping for an outdoor furniture cover, it’s helpful to consider several key factors. The first step is to measure your furniture accurately to ensure the cover fits properly for optimal protection. You’ll also want to consider the color carefully. Lighter colors stay cooler in the sun, while darker colors blend in better in shaded areas.

Our favorite outdoor furniture covers feature a way to secure the cover around the furniture for extra protection from animals or the elements. These can in include buckles, clips, straps, or drawstrings.

Material

Be sure to check what the cover is made of since each type of material has pros and cons. Mike Murphy, owner of Boonies.com, an online outdoor living products store based in Murray, Utah, weighs in one some of the most common ones below.

• Polyester: Lightweight, easy to fold, durable, fade-resistant, and often treated to repel water. “It’s easy to work with but can fade or weaken in strong sun if it’s not UV-protected,” Murphy says.
• Vinyl: Heavy-duty and blocks moisture and wind extremely well, but it can crack in extreme hot or cold temperatures and may trap condensation if it’s not breathable, according to Murphy. 
• Canvas: Available in either cotton or synthetic fabric, it has a sturdy, high-quality look and feel. “Cotton canvas needs a waterproof coating to handle rain, while synthetic blends resist weather better,” Murphy says. However, canvas covers are heavier than other options and take up more storage space.

Water Resistance and Ventilation

Both water resistance and ventilation are important aspects to consider when choosing an outdoor furniture cover. Ventilation stops moisture from getting trapped under the cover, which can also cause mildew or corrosion. “Good ventilation usually comes from mesh panels or built-in vents,” Murphy adds.

Care

Outdoor furniture covers are designed to protect the furniture underneath from the elements, but they also need to be cleaned once in a while. 

While some covers can be machine-washed, most of the options we tested should be rinsed with a hose or spot cleaned with mild cleaners, like dish soap. “Covers with UV protection and mildew-resistant coatings tend to need less upkeep overall,” Murphy says.

It comes with a compact, zippered storage pouch for convenience and is lightweight and easy to carry using built-in fabric handles. Unfortunately, it is not waterproof, so you’ll only want to use it in locations where it won’t get soaked by the rain, such as a garage or shed.

Vailge Heavy Duty Patio Sofa Cover

The Vailge Heavy Duty Patio Sofa Cover is designed with sturdy seams and effective clips and straps for securing the cover. It does a good job protecting furniture during high winds and is designed to be waterproof. Unfortunately, the black material fades quickly in the sun. The cover also isn’t large enough to protect the feet of their loveseat, which could cause debris or small animals to get under the cover at ground level.

F&J Outdoors Outdoor Patio Cover

The F&J Outdoors Outdoor Patio Cover feels strong, durable, and well-made. It has thick stitches, sturdy seams, and well-designed straps and clasps for extra security. Unfortunately, this cover is difficult to cinch completely, requiring multiple attempts to get it to fit snugly and securely. Also, water seeped into the furniture during heavy rain, which may be due to the poor initial fit of the cover.

Room and Board Outdoor Covers

This outdoor furniture cover is being used on our tester’s round metal bistro table with four matching chairs. So far, it’s been exposed to wind, dust, pollen, heat and simulated rain. The design is attractive and polished, and the cover comes with a convenient carrying case. 

Though it does what it’s supposed to, the performance doesn’t quite match the price point. The cover doesn’t feel heavy-duty enough to last through frequent wear-and-tear, and it seems more water resistant as opposed to waterproof. It’s best for users who prioritize appearance, tailored fit, and brand presentation over maximum weatherproofing and value.
