When returning home from time away, Malinin has tunnel vision. “The first thing I do when I walk through the door is find all three [cats]... they always give me the comfort and the decompress that I need after a tough day at the rink,” Malinin says.

A close second to cuddle time with the kitties is his parents' cuisine. “I really love my parents' cooking,” Malinin says. “They cook the best food I've ever had.”

Malinin's favorites include many recipes inspired by his family's culture: “They're originally from Russia, so they have a lot of European and Russian dishes, like beetroot soup, dumplings, pasta, and meatballs. They have all different kinds of food, and they're always intrigued to give new recipes a try as well,” he says.

What Cats Have Taught Him About Self-Care

Whether or not you're a high-performance athlete, self-care is vital and goes beyond getting enough to eat. Cats can serve as a daily reminder to their owners to prioritize themselves.

“They need a lot of rest. They need to eat, they need to be active. They're also pretty intelligent creatures, so it reminds me that I also have to manage my time doing what helps me,” Malinin says. “They've taught me a lot. They remind me to integrate self-care... take good care of yourself, take good care of your hygiene, and honestly just remind me that cats are... we're kind of like cats.”

Three Peas in a Pod

Have you heard the expression “three's a crowd?” Well, three cats is the perfect amount, according to Malinin. “I'd always seen people talk about... sometimes it's better to get even numbers... But realizing how comfortable they got really quickly, they all get along really, really well together.”

Malinin's three cats, the “Quad Cats,” are all ragdolls, a breed known for their beautiful eyes and luxurious coats. Mysti the cat is a black ragdoll, and Miu Miu is a seal ragdoll. The third ragdoll, however, currently a gorgeous gray kitten, is yet to be named.

The Mysterious New Feline

Known only as “M” for now, the newest addition to Malinin's clowder is still a bit of a mystery. Through his partnership with Sheba, Malinin is planning to reveal the name of his newest family member live on his social channels on July 10, which happens to be National Kitten Day.

“The whole idea around partnering with Sheba again was to kind of give my fans an opportunity to see what the cats are like, you know, a little more content from them,” Malinin says. “I think it's something that will help [fans] kind of see a different side of me—a very cute, comforting, cuddly cat guy, honestly.”
