The Return of Trader Joe's Peony Tulips

Peony tulips are popular Trader Joe's flowers that are reminiscent of the soft, fluffy peonies that don’t typically show up at Trader Joe’s until later in the season.

Each peony tulip boasts layers upon layers of ruffled petals and carries a sweet scent that will undoubtedly turn the floral department into a fresh spring garden. This year’s peony tulips are available at Trader Joe's in a glorious range of spring colors, from bright orange to soft pink. While supplies last, shoppers can snag one bunch for only $9.

How to Keep Your Peony Tulips Fresh

Trader Joe’s peony tulip bunches can stay fresh for up to a week. However, there are a few things you can try to extend their lifespan as much as possible:

• Once you arrive home, give their stems a quick trim. You should cut them at an angle, so that they have as much room as possible to absorb water.
• Remove the leaves from the base of your peony tulips, making sure no greenery touches the water in your vase to reduce mold growth. 
• Fill a vase with cold water. You’ll want to change the water out every day or two, to keep your flowers as fresh as possible. If you have some flower food, this will also help your tulips last longer. 
• Help your blooms stay hydrated. If your tulips start to droop, give the stems a fresh cut. You can also try taking a needle or thumbtack and poking a hole through both sides of the stem, right underneath the flower. This releases air that gets trapped within the tulip stems and prevents water from reaching its destination.

At some point, your tulips will start to lose their petals, which is a sure sign it’s almost time for you to pick up a fresh bouquet.
