This lawn mower is battery-operated, coming with two rechargeable 56V 4.0Ah ARC Lithium batteries. One review says that the one plugged in “will charge by the time the battery being used runs out of charge,” so those with big yards won’t have to wait to switch them out.
Together, they provide up to 65 minutes of runtime—according to another shopper, it “varies depending on the grass condition.” If it’s long and wet from rain, for example, the mower’s going to have to work a little harder to trim the grass down. That said, our testing found that it could handle it “without any issues.” Others agree, with one review describing that “tall grass that would bog my last mower down was no problem for this Ego model.”
People are also a big fan of what Ego calls their Touch Drive system, which puts the motor in self-propel mode (between 0.9 and 3.1 miles per hour) when you grip the clutch on the handle. One user, whose yard is on a 30-degree hill, credits the mower’s capability of the climb to this feature.
We only needed one hand to operate it, and reported in our writeup that “it’s great for anyone with back pain or an older person, as no effort is required to push it.” Bonus: During testing, we discovered that you can activate self-propel even when the blades aren’t running, so putting the mower away is a breeze and you won’t harm the freshly cut grass.
Four blades are included—the mulching blade, extended runtime blade, upper blade, and high-lift bagging blade—providing you with plenty of options to get the “professional-looking cut” shoppers love. They can be easily adjusted to seven different heights, ranging from 1.5 inches to 4 inches, and the handle’s height and angle are also adjustable.
The mower also comes with a two-bushel grass collection bag for your clippings, which one shopper noted is the same size as “your standard paper leaf bag that you get from the hardware store,” so you can easily transfer them between the collection bag to the yard bag.
In our review, we noted that “there is no assembly required apart from putting on the bag if you want it.” One reviewer said the “blades chop up the grass into much smaller pieces,” mowing only requires “half the yard bags it used to.”
The fact that the mower is so lightweight makes it even better. In fact, one shopper insists that, “had I known how light it'd be, I'd probably not bother with the self propelled. I hardly use it because it's rather light and easy to maneuver.”
Another major selling point? Just how quiet it is. One review praised that this mower is “50% quieter” than a previous gas-powered mower, “and you don't need ear protection unless you want to listen to music.” Another celebrated that as a result, “there was no feeling of irritating the late-sleeping neighbors or those working from home.”
At the end of our testing, we found that “the mower folds down so compactly that we were able to store it in a small space between a shelving rack and a patio catch.”
