Influencing Her New Home

Rachel launched her Pink Peonies blog in 2010 to document her wedding and life with husband Drew. What started as a journal to share with family and friends exploded, making Rachel a digital sensation, an Instagram influencer with more than a million followers and her own fashion line. Her latest project: shaping a new home for her family near Salt Lake City.

Just as Rachel's online community has embraced her and her growing family, the mountainous landscape of Utah wraps the Salt Lake area in natural beauty. The Parcells wanted their new house to take advantage of those gorgeous vistas.

"We were the first to build a house in our former development," Rachel says. "We could see forever. But as the neighborhood filled, we felt like we were living in a fishbowl. This time, we wanted our original views to remain the same."

An open living area includes a family room, kitchen, and breakfast nook, all with color accents that reference the Parcells' view of the sky, trees, and mountains. Two linen-covered cube ottomans and a Persian rug politely interrupt the stone-and-ivory foundation of the family room with a reserved version of blue.

Dazzling Entry

Rachel's followers are always free to offer opinions online (and they often do). But for her family's new home, design decision-making came down to Rachel and a few key professionals, including Drew, who is a developer and general contractor. With design execution from Alice Lane Interiors, the Parcell home now reads as a veritable picture book of the classic, romantic, and feminine sensibilities that have made Rachel a beloved influencer.

The grand entry packs in architectural decoration. The staircase walls showcase paneling and fluting. An iron railing delights with rosette brackets. And a floor boasting three types of marble dazzles with elegant pattern.

Natural Color Palette

The large round table in the light-flooded breakfast room

is a welcome spot for Rachel and Drew to gather with Isla Rose, 4, and Jack, 2 (and their Labrador, Dash). Green leather on chair seats links to the outdoors, while the kitchen takes a decorative pause from its expanse of warm white to weave warm gray hues and brass accents into the scheme.

Warm White Kitchen

Warm tones of white were selected to keep the kitchen from feeling too sterile. The veining in

the Calacatta marble on the table, range surround, backsplash, and shelving adds visual interest to the

mainly monochrome scheme. Bar stools with leather seats provide subtle accents. Satin-brass finishes on light fixtures, faucets, and hardware extend a warm glow.

Soothing Primary Suite

The primary suite, meanwhile, shows that Rachel, typically the influencer, is sometimes the one being swayed. While enjoying lunch at New York luxury emporium Bergdorf Goodman, she was entranced by the restaurant's decor. It inspired a hand-painted Gracie wallcovering of birds and butterflies that layers her primary bedroom with serenity.

The blue ground of the wallcovering informs satin drapery panels and a velvet chair. Ivory furniture, including a canopy bed, sofa, and tufted ottoman, offers a soft contrast.
