You may already be familiar with numerology in the context of birth dates or names—using numbers to reveal insights into personality traits and life paths—but did you know that your home also carries a unique energy? Like personal numerology, address numerology interprets the numbers in your address to uncover the vibrations of your living environment.

What Is Address Numerology 

Numerology focuses on the significance of numbers and their influences. It has roots in ancient civilizations and is most strongly associated with the Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras (a name you may recall from school math classes and learning the Pythagorean theorem). 

“Address numerology reveals the energetic blueprint of a home, offering insights into the vibrations and influences that the environment imparts on its inhabitants,” says Green. “By calculating the numerological value of an address, residents can understand the underlying themes and energies that may affect their daily experiences, relationships, and personal growth within that space. This awareness can guide individuals in aligning their living environment with their personal aspirations, development and wellbeing.”

Calculating Your Home’s Numerology

The specific numbers of your home—the street number and, if applicable, unit identifier—are the most critical parts in determining the numerology. You can ignore the street name, even when it includes numbers.

Finding Your Home’s Number

Finding your home’s numerology is simple: first, add together the street numbers of your address. Your goal is a number 1 through 9. If your initial sum is larger, add those numbers in order to reduce that number to a single digit.

For example, if your address is 2424 Indiana Ave, your home’s numerology is 3. 

2+4+2+4= 12 

1+2 = 3

When Your Address Also Has a Unit Identifier

If your address has a unit identifier in addition to the street number, Green recommends incorporating that number and reducing it again to find your home’s numerology. 

For example, if your address is 1785 Water St, Apartment 201, your home’s numerology is 8. 

Street number:

1+7+8+7= 23

2+3 = 5

Unit number:

2+0+1=3

Home numerology:

5+3 = 8

When Your Address Includes Letters

When your critical address components also include letters, use this table to convert the letter(s) to numbers and continue with the math. 

1  23 4 5678 9  A, J, S B, K, T C, L, UD, M, V  E, N, W F, O, X G, P, Y H, Q, Z I, R

For example, if your address is 1483 E. 70th St, 11D, your home’s number is 4. 

Street number:

1+4+8+3=16

1+6 = 7

Unit number:

1+1+4 = 6

Home numerology:

7+6 = 13

1+3 = 4

How to Use Address Numerology

Like feng shui, color energies, and even zodiac signs, numerology offers insights that you can use to approach how you think about, use, and decorate your home. 

Green says there are two ways to approach using address numerology. The first is understanding the home, which she calls clarity. “Recognizing the inherent energies of a home can explain certain experiences or feelings associated with the space, helping residents make sense of their environment,” says Green.

The second approach, guidance, is more active. “With this knowledge and awareness, individuals can make conscious choices to harmonize with or counterbalance the home’s energy,” says Green. She gives the example of someone in a 5-home establishing routines to help provide stability in a dynamic environment, or someone in a 7-home making space for social interaction in a more inherently introspective environment. 

Another example is calculating both address numerology and personal numerology to get a better picture of how you and your home work together. “Personal numerology offers understanding of individual characteristics and life purposes,” says Green. “Address numerology reveals the environmental influences that can support or challenge personal energies. By exploring both, individuals can assess the compatibility between themselves and their living spaces.”

Adjusting Home Numerology

Green says it’s essential to understand that you aren’t stuck with a single number. If your life number reflects creativity but your home does not, Green says adjustments can be made for better harmony. Similarly, as we experience different phases of life, we may want a different environment. Green shared an example of how to alter a home’s numerology when a loved one nears the end of life—first for community and support, and later for closure. “You can change your address numerology to match whatever season, cycle, or thing you are wanting to call into your life,” says Green.
