Everything You Need to Know About Worst Yard on the Block

HGTV is going back to its roots with Worst Yard on the Block, a show that pairs HGTV's classic renovation format with America's messiest backyards. The show will follow two different duos as they challenge themselves to save yards that are overgrown, abandoned, or completely unlivable. 

The first pair consists of lawn expert Tucker Kincaid and carpenter and craftsman Jared “J. Paul” Foster. Meanwhile, landscaping and lawn care expert Blake Hawthorn is teaming up with designer and builder Margo Fairchild to tackle backyard projects.

Teams will be focusing not just on the yards themselves, but also on the fresh features they can add to them. While Kincaid and Hawthorn have experience with overgrown yards that are desperate for a new look, Foster and Fairchild are familiar with projects that involve demolition, woodworking, and exterior design. There's no telling exactly what each team's projects will look like, but fans are excited to find out.

HGTV has revealed that the first season will have 12 total episodes, focusing on yards that seem to be beyond saving—one episode features a yard that's overrun with feral cats, while another follows a yard and home that have been totally abandoned. Each yard is completely transformed in just a few days.

It's been a minute since we've seen an HGTV show dedicated entirely to the backyard, and fans are excited to have another gardening-focused show to binge. “So glad a landscape show will be in the lineup,” one commenter said on HGTV's Instagram announcement post. “Love that a gardening show is coming back to [HGTV]! Can't wait,” added another. 

The series will premiere on July 15 at 10 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. PT on HGTV. Episodes will be available to watch on HBO Max the day after they first air.
